No, unfortunately, there isn't a setting to adjust the degree of spread for stacks.
We'll all just have to wait for v2...

Try using Irfanview http://www.irfanview.com to vary the size/quality of your files.
With scanned images .jpegs are usually more economical, but .pngs are often much better with computer generated ones...
